Early every morning, the road by the river is filled with trucks unloading fresh produce brought down from the mountains surrounding Chiang Mai city. Amongst the baskets of fruit and vegetables are thousands of bundles of fresh cut flowers in every variety, colour, shape and size you can imagine, ready for the flower market. Many of these flowers will go to local businesses and homes, but some of these bundles are reserved for us at ROC, because all of our real flower jewellery begins with fresh flowers.
This week, we have an enormous supply of roses waiting for us when we arrive at the flower market, a stone's throw from our Head Office. We have been working with a number of small, independent flower nurseries for many years, and each week, these nurseries send the flowers we need to make our jewellery to the flower market for us to collect.
One of our most popular creations, which we ship worldwide, is our signature Eternal Rose. This week we'll be busy making these, so most of the roses will be crafted into these beautiful keepsakes. The remaining roses and their leaves will be used for our rose jewellery range.
Many people benefit from every piece of jewellery purchased; from independent flower growers to local flower sellers and to our team of artisans and staff, many of whom have been with us since the beginning of our journey nearly 40 years ago. Many of our staff and artisans are women, and over the years their work with us has enabled them to become financially independent and support themselves and their families.
By early afternoon the flower market is quiet. Most of the flowers are gone and more will arrive in the morning. But for us, the journey our roses will take is just beginning. Much work and love goes into each small creation, to bring you a piece of Nature To Treasure.
